When the Pride in Our Past exhibition draws to it’s conclusion on 30th June, and much of the material collected moves to its permanent home in the Plymouth and West Devon Records office, it becomes more important than ever to continue the fantastic work that has been achieved by volunteers so far.

Whilst the exhibition has been on show work has been going on behind the scenes building the the on-line Plymouth LGBT archive using the key themes of the exhibition for the primary navigation.

The archive logo has been designed by volunteer Carrie Anne, which represents the

‘light we’re shining on Plymouth’s LGBT past’.

The Archive website is now live and there is plenty more material to upload, including the supporting oral histories collected over the past year.

Carrie also designed the new Pride in Plymouth Logo that has become the ‘brand symbol’ for Pride in the Park, she says:

The logo illustrates my love for Plymouth and by using images from photographs that I have taken of the Hoe and the Barbican it makes the logo feel more personal to the town and being gay myself I thought that Pride in Plymouth was perfect as you remind me that I’m not alone and that it is ok to be who I am.

Our work in supporting the Pride in Our Past project in developing the on-line archive has meant that our blog post and social network updates have been a bit sparse  over the past few weeks – have lots to catch up on and will be all systems go for Pride in the Park.

Here is a screen shot from the new Plymouth LGBT archive website that demonstrates the diversity of the material collected on one side the early years looking at subcultures and an underground scene complemented by ‘family matters’ and ‘Reflection on Transition’ in more recent times.
