Cornwall Pride 2012

The fifth Cornwall Pride took place in Truro on Saturday 25th August (Bank Holiday weekend).

After four years of glorious weather, the wet summer of 2012 proved too much for the picnic in the park. This year Cornwall Pride invoked the wet weather contingency and held the free afternoon event in and around the Marquee at Lemon Quay. Even though this was not as good as the beautiful Victoria Gardens we have to congratulate the organisers of Cornwall Pride for being able to make the most of a very wet day.

The parade went ahead as planned and was well supported despite the weather.

The ticketed evening event was unaffected and the Marquee soon filled with pride party goers who enjoyed a packed evening of live entertainment.

Gay Times 400 Exhibition

Gay Times, the original gay magazine, has been representing gay men for almost 40 years.

If you are in London between Friday 4 November – Wednesday 30 November then check out this great exhibition at the New Bloomsbury Set, 76 Marchmont Street, London, WC1N 1AG

This exhibition showcases the best of the last 37 years, from humble beginnings as HIM Magazine, the first gay magazine available on UK news stands in 1974, up to and including the landmark 400th issue of GT.

Torbay End of Season Boat Party and Garden Party

Message From Pride Torbay:

Thanks everyone for your support of Pride Torbay this year – everyone seemed to have a great time and we look forward to revealing more details about next year’s event over the coming months. In the meantime, as the season is almost and we don’t feel like we have had much of a summer over the last couple of months, we thought we would finish things with a bang. With this in mind, we have organised a great weekend of entertainment, which we hope you will be able to join us for.

Torbay boat party Sat 17th Sept. 2011

Saturday 17th Sept

We are kicking things off with a Boat Party this Saturday (17th September), leaving Princess Pier at 6.30pm on the dot! We will then go for a two hour cruise around the bay, while our lovely party DJ’s spin some great tunes and we all sup a drink or three! We are then heading over to The Pavilion where barbecue food will be available on the terrace, where you can enjoy supping a few more drinks with great views and amicable company. Thanks to our friends at Greenway Ferries for making this possible.

 

Tickets for the boat party are £6. Email dave@pridetorbay.org to reserve yours and collect them 15 mins before the boat departs (6.15pm at Princess Pier).

Cliff House Hotel Garden party Sun 18th Sept 2011

On the Sunday (18th September) it’s then on over to The Cliff House for a big End Of Season Garden Party. Enjoy a welcome drink, canapés and live singing from Bradley Read, as well as proms-style sing-alongs and all sorts of other fun and frolics. It’s Pimms-O-Clock from 4pm, while why not dress in clothes you think might suit a garden party at the Cliff House…the more fun and outrageous the better. From boaters and blazers to cocktail frocks and bonnets, we look forward to experiencing your creations.

Tickets are £6 (including welcome drink and canapés) and are available from the Cliff House

Devonport Park Fun Day Sunday 4th August 2011

Devonport Guildhall, Devonport Park House and Devonport Park Memorial

To mark the completion of the Devonport Park Recreation Project & to celebrate the restoration of Devonport Guildhall, there will be a procession before the start of the fun day on Sunday 4th September 2011. The procession will start at 10.30am at Devonport Guildhall and proceed through various residential streets of Devonport, ending at the new park gates in Fore Street.

The  Fun Day will include children’s activities, live music including ‘Weapons of Sound’ Victorian stalls and fairground, food and drinks and lots more.

There is a £1000 grand prize draw, and in in the evening a ticketed event at the Devonport Park Pavilion Cafe tickets are £7.50.

Friday 29th July

Pride Torbay Presents SHOWBOAT – From Princess Pier, 7pm. £6 or £10 with club entry to 80’s party at Club Rainbow (includes a donation to the pride charities).

Meadfoot Inn – The team at Torquay’s longest running gay bar invite you to an evening of boozing, schmoozing and song, with DJ Teja hosting the karaoke. Don’t forget you can grab a delicious bite to eat in the Back Room till 9.30pm. Booking advised.

Candyfloss Pride Opening Party
Candyfloss, Rock Road. 10.30pm – 2am. £3 (includes a donation to the pride charities).
The Candyfloss opening night party is the perfect way to begin your pride weekend in decadent style, with DJ’s on both floors spinning the dance anthems and retro kitsch.

Saturday 30th July

Pride Breakfasts
Start your Pride Saturday with a celebratory breakfast – it’s the most important meal of the day, don’t you know. The Meadfoot Inn and Harbour View will both be serving breakfasts before the walk starts, with booking essential.

Rainbow Cafe. – FREE EVENT
Unity Hall, Montpellier Road (behind Debenhams). 1pm onwards.
Enjoy good company and a FREE breakfast at the monthly Rainbow Cafe. All welcome! To help boost Pride funds there will be a super indoors Boot Sale with lots of bargains!

Pride Torbay Presents – The Rainbow Walk – FREE EVENT
Beacon Quay, Torquay Harbourside. Warm-up from 10.30am, walk starts at 11am.
Choose one of the six colours of the gay rainbow flag and dress in that colour to help us create a giant human rainbow flag leading people to the park party. Sign up for your colour at www.pridetorbay.org. Prizes for best costume in each colour.

Pride Torbay Presents – Pride in the Park with Joe McElderry
Hollicombe Park (coast road between Torquay and Paignton). 12pm till 8pm. £12.50 in advance, £17.50 on pride weekend.
Showcase event of the entire weekend featuring a main stage, shopping village, food stalls, fairground rides, bar areas, a Pimms and Picnic and the Marldon Marquees dance tent.

Pride Torbay Presents – Access all Areas
Pavilion, Torquay. 10pm – 3am. £10 Via pre-sale (includes donation to pride charities).
Come and party with the stars of Pride in the Park at the VIP after-party.
Fizz and Nibbles included plus funky DJ’s and maybe a few surprises!!

Candyfloss Pride Saturday
Candyfloss, Rock Road. £4 (includes donation to pride charities).
This is the big one, with all three floors open and usually a queue down the street, so plan to get there early! Expect an outrageous night of cruising, boozing and schmoozing and throwing a few shapes on one of the dancefloors.

Bear Factory
Tom’s Cruise Bar, Key West Resort, Daddyhole Road. 11pm till late. £3
Poptarts and Disco Divas Party and a whole night of the best chart and commercial remixes as well as classic remixed tracks from the days of disco. Please note Key West is a gay and bisexual male only resort.

Sunday 31st July

The Heritage Walk.- Free Event
Meet at The Pavilion, 11am – 1pm. FREE EVENT (Pride charity donations welcome)
A relaxed and accessible stroll around the harbour area, discovering some of the notorious hangouts and characters who have added a spot of colour to the Bay’s gay heritage. We will end up at the Cliff House Hotel.

A Wonderful Cream Tea – FREE EVENT
The Unity Hall, next to the Unitarian Church, Montpellier Road (behind Debenhams).
Held by the Metropolitan Community Church to commemorate ten years in the Bay. Music, good company and laughter are guaranteed! Open to all and completely free!

Barbecue and Pool Party – Key West Resort, Daddyhole Road
Hang out by the pool in the stunning gardens of the UK’s first gay resort hotel and enjoy some great food and company. The team will also be donating all profits from the barbecue to the pride charities. Please note Key West is a gay and bisexual male only resort.

Cliff House Goes to Hollywood
3pm onwards. £3.50 (including food and a pride charity donation)
A truly All-Things-American afternoon and evening of outrageous fun and games, including karaoke by the fabulous All Stars. Dress in stars of the silver screen style! Bar facilities available to complement the succulent burgers, hotdogs, sauces and salads.

Cabaret at the Meadfoot Inn – The Meadfoot Inn, Meadfoot Lane. 4.30pm onwards
An afternoon and evening of camp fun and entertainment starring Shaz M, Philip Lindon and DJ Teya. The Pride Torbay raffle will also be drawn at 9.30pm. You’ll also be able to get cabs to the Candyfloss Pride Closing Party for just £4.

Pride Torbay 2011 Closing Party – FREE EVENT
Candyfloss, Rock Road. 10.30pm – 2am.
The big finish to the entire pride weekend and if last year was anything to go by, you should certainly save some energy and pocket money for this. Come and party with the staff from all of the venues, who have been working their socks off over the weekend and we’ll see you on the dance floor!

IMPORTANT TICKET INFO

Tickets are available from all gay venues in Torquay, Harbour View Cafe, Bristol Ticket Shop, Domini Hair – North St. Bedminster Bristol and all Tourist Information Centers in Torbay. Tickets are £12.50 until Wednesday 27th July and £17.50 on Pride weekend itself! Any tickets bought after 14th July will not be posted but will need to be picked up from either the start of the Rainbow Walk or From Torquay Tourist Information Center.

Bovisand Beach

Bovisand is the closest sandy beach to Plymouth City Centre located only five miles to the east of Plymouth Hoe.

The main beach at Bovisand is a sheltered bay of yellow sands with cliffs on either side. It’s popular with locals and visiting families and there’s a large expanse of sand for ball games at low tide. The beach is a protected area and has an abundance of marine life.

Directions:

From Plymouth head to Mountbatten, follow signs for Jenny Cliff/Staddon Heights. Beach can be accessed either side.

By Bus – in the summer there is an hourly bus service (No 54) operated by Target Travel from the city centre

You can also walk the coast path from Plymouth (5 Miles), or join the coast path at Bovisand to walk to the River Yealm passing various bays (7 miles).
