Hawkins Meeting House Logo - Freedom for All

Hawkins Meeting House are proud to announce that good quality home cooked food is now available Monday through to Saturday midday to 8pm. They have teamed up with Chef Leanne Leigh Lawler who is serving up a selection of favourite and classic dishes using lots of local produce.

The introductory menu includes light bites and sharers with a selection of dips, home made burgers and Pizza’s. The mains include locally caught cod in crispy beer batter, rump steak with onion rings and sizzling chicken fajitas.  Classic deserts include the all time favourites spotted dick and chocolate fudge cake.

The prices won’t disappoint either with most mains at £4.95 and all puddings £2.95.

Also starting this Sunday at Hawkins – ‘The Sunday Club‘ with The Funky Divas and the amazing Sarah Q every Sunday night from 8pm.

Easter 2013 on the Scene and in Plymouth

Easter holiday weekend in Plymouth has traditionally been fantastic and 2013 builds on this with an amazing choice of entertainment and other events both on and off the gay scene.

The weekend kicks of at Hawkins Meeting House on Friday 29th with a new singer on the scene Chealsea Glover on stage at 10pm.

On Saturday 30th at 10 pm  the Diamond Queen presents the fabulous Mary Gold – ‘Dragging in Spring’

The Clarence host it’s popular ‘Bittersweet Symphony Karaoke ” from 7.30pm

DJ Twinkle (the larger than life nun) returns dishing out a mix of camp classics, gay favourites and request at Hawkins from 10pm.

Bank Holiday Sunday‘s have become legendary at Hawkins FREE BBQ and back to back live entertainment into the night. This year they have the BBQ from 4pm and the first act up is Jazmin 7 – 9pm, followed by Jo James 9-11pm and ending the night with Sarah Q 11 – 1am.

Easter Sunday – Enjoy a proper Roast Dinner at the Old Friary cooked by Chief Euten – Fusion Cuisine have partnered with the Old Friary offering food inspired by the Caribbean through the week – take away service available.

Sunday Heaven – Good Food Market and Drag Spectacular

Tomorrow being the first Sunday of the month the Good Food Market will be at the Royal William Yard showcasing some of the best local food and drink in the South West.

One of the best ways to get the Royal William Yard is to take the water taxi from the Barbican this short boat ride provides stunning views of Plymouth the Hoe and river Tamar.

After a spot of lunch at the Royal William Yard why not head on down to the Diamond Queen (at the end of Durnford Street) for an afternoon and evening of entertainment. The performance will include the ultimate drag duo Miss Thunderpussy and Miss Penny’s CCTV show  ’CAR CRASH TRANSVESTITES‘.

Pride in the Park Saturday 28th July 2012

On Saturday 28th July, ‘Gay Pride’ returns to the city of Plymouth with its first proper outdoor pride festival, which will take place in the recently restored Devonport Park. The new Heritage Lottery Funded ornate bandstand will provide the main stage and central focal point for over six hours of free live entertainment. Pride in the Park will bring members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans communities (LGBT) together, along with their friends and families, to celebrate and embrace the diversity that exist amongst us.

Miss Alexus, Plymouth’s first resident Drag Queen, returns to Plymouth to host Pride in the Park and is introducing a fabulous line up of acts and entertainers who are promising a ‘Show to be Proud of’.

The Youth Chances organisation will be there, enabling 16 to 25 year olds in the city to participate in the UK’s national survey to establish what life is like today for young LGBT or questioning people and also ‘Being You’ will be offering drumming workshops throughout the day.  Visit Oxford will also be in attendance and have provided the top raffle prize of an all-inclusive, four-star stay in Oxford.

The Friends of Devonport park are kindly providing much of the infrastructure required to facilitate the event and the remainder is supplied by volunteers working with community networking group Pride in Plymouth and with support by Plymouth City Council and The Intercom Trust through their Prudence de Villiers Memorial Fund.

We have to thank members of the ‘Pride in Our Past’ project for forging links with their fellow Heritage Lottery Funded organisation, The Friends of Devonport Park.  The Pride in Our Past volunteers were responsible for the recent exhibition in the city museum and are creating a permanent physical and virtual archive of LGBT life, past and present, for the city of Plymouth which will be at Pride in the Park when they team up with the Plymouth and West Devon Record office to provide a local history tent.  Also, at the sixth annual Community Archives and Heritage Group Conference held in London, June 27th Pride in Our Past was awarded the prestigious title ‘Most Inspirational Archive 2011’. The award will be formally presented to volunteers that worked on the Pride in Our Past project at Pride in the Park on the 28th July.

Hawkins Meeting House has a new menu and is now serving home cooked food between 12 and 9pm lunches and afternoon snacks are served in the main bar. In the evening the dance floor area is transformed to a cosy candle lit bistro style dining room (pictured). Enjoy one of the special offers two main meals for £8, two courses £7 or three course £9.

13th Plymouth RESPECT FESTIVAL Sat 29th Sun 30th October 2011

Global musicians will be featuring at this year’s 13th annual Plymouth Respect Festival, taking place on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th October at Plymouth Guildhall.

The packed line-up promises to deliver that rich mix of music, cultures and experiences that the Plymouth Respect Festival is famed for.

Plymouth Respect Festival 29th - 30th Oct 2011This year the event will kick off with Rhythms 4 Respect, an evening of dance and music, on Saturday 29th October, 5pm – 11pm. Salsa dance fun will get you warmed up and live music from Salsa, African and Ska bands will keep you on your toes. Tickets cost £5 and are available from Vibes Music and The Plymouth & Devon Racial Equality Office, or on the door on the night (see contact section for more info). Licensed bar and food will be available.

Don’t miss Samba Sunday, when Samba bands from across the South West will converge on Plymouth to strut through the city like its Rio de Janeiro! Parade starts at 10am by the Sundial.

The parade will end at Plymouth Guildhall and signal the start of the Respect Festival at 11am, a free family event, with Live music performances from Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir, plus stalls, performances, workshops, info stands, world food, coffee shop, activities for children and much, much more.

Finally add into the mix two free zumba sessions, (which will be run by Claire Batten of Zumba Zone). The first on Saturday at 2pm and the second Sunday at 1pm on the Civic Piazza, in front of Plymouth Guildhall. The sessions are open to any age and any ability.

The Plymouth Respect Festival is an important event in the city’s calendar for highlighting diversity and celebrating differences. A spin-off strand of events is called Respect 4 Respect – with events and shows throughout the year to demonstrate the wide-reaching effects of the Festival.
