The Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association Chair Adam Knowles has urged members of the LGBT community “to work together with unity and pride to protest against the Papal state visit”.
He added “It is time to respect and celebrate those who are prepared to make a stand against Papal intolerance and prejudice”.
SAY NO TO AN OFFICIAL STATE VISIT TO THE UK
As it is an official state visit, the Pope is meeting with the leaders of all three major parties – David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Harriet Harman – as well as other senior politicians. The leaders should represent the views of the British public during these events. The Protest the Pope Campaign is encouraging you to make your views known to your MP, as your elected representative, to request that they pass your message on to their respective party leaders. The Protest the Pope Campaign’s automated email system will allow you to do this quickly and easily.
The template email on the above link can be edited so you can personalise the message to your MP. We recommend you read the rest of this post and visit the linked sites for more information, so you can add more detail to your message.
It may be too late to stop the visit but it is not too late to let your MP know that you do not approve of the Government spending an estimated £20 Million of public funds on this state visit. The Vatican has more than enough money to fund their own trips including security and policing. If the pope wasn’t so unpopular he wouldn’t need such heavy protection.
No 10 failed to take notice of of the 1000′s of people that signed petitions against this publicly funded state visit.
Peter Tatchell (OutRage!) set up a No 10 Petition to: disassociate the British government from the Pope’s intolerant views ahead of the Papal visit to Britain in September 2010 which 12,339 people signed.

- Pope Benedict has attacked LGBT rights on so many occasions and continues to undermine the progress of global Equality legislation.
- Pope Benedict has and continues to oppose the distribution of condoms and so increasing large families in poor countries and the spread of AIDS
- He has Failed to address the many cases of abuse of children within its own organisation.
NOW is the time to let the Queen, our Government and the Catholic Church know just how out of date and unpopular the Popes and Vatican views are.
