2012 – The Alan Turing Year

It is fantastic to enter 2012 with the news that the Royal Mail are to honour Alan Turing on a 1st class stamp. The stamp will be released during LGBT History Month on the 23rd, February, 2012. The Alan Turing year marks the centenary of his birth on June 23rd 1912 and there will be events across the country to celebrate his life and achievements.

Here in Plymouth we hope to hold a fringe exhibition / event around the end of the Pride in Our Past exhibition that will run from 28th April to 30th June 2012. (look out for more details soon).

    It was revealed earlier this week that war hero, gay icon and victim of prejudice Alan Turing is to be commemorated in a new stam series celebrating Briton’s of Distinction.
